Yeast Coast Sourdough was born out of one simple mission: to help more people bake bread at home.

Shortly after starting our family, we began baking fresh bread with a few simple ingredients. We fell in love with sourdough for its flavor, simplicity, and process. Friends excitedly asked us how they could start baking bread too, and we loved sharing the tradition and knowledge. I eventually left my legal career to pursue my passion, and founded Yeast Coast Sourdough.

Through testing and analysis, we have selected for fast-growing yeast cultures, maximizing microbe and LAB density while reducing acidity. The result is our Superstarter™, a balanced sourdough starter that rehydrates quickly at full strength.  We experimented with each of the variables that affect a starter's performance: feeding ratios, flour blends, hydration level, and even water temperature. Once our starter was operating at its peak we explored optimal dehydration temperature and methodology. Through these variables we have selected for fast-growing yeast cultures, maximized microbe and LAB density, while reducing acidity. This results in a sourdough starter that rehydrates quickly at full strength. It’s alive and optimized to bake.

Each batch is handcrafted in small quantities using high-quality ingredients: filtered water, bread flour, organic rye, then carefully dried using a low-temperature dehydration method that preserves microbial activity.
